February 2011
This may sound really juvenile and pointless, but listening to Bach in well-tempered tuning is, surprisingly, getting on my nerves.  Well-tempered sounds really good an all; it’s just that my ears are too accustomed to the equal temperament tuning system, so every single note sounds off to me.

My thoughts?
This revolution in Egypt is the most brilliantly staged governmental ousting I have ever seen.  The rhetoric on all sides is carefully worded, and flawless.  The US, careful not to create a power vacuum in which anti-US groups could take power, remains vague in its published statements regarding the revolution in Egypt.  Relentless international media coverage is quick to help indirectly unify the...

Music History 63: Bach
And so I’m doing the listening assignment while studying for the upcoming midterm, and I realized something:  Bach’s play-style can be equivalent to that of a modern-day guitar shredder, except with baroque instruments and styles of composition, considering how technical his pieces get.  This guy can play hella fast, all the while retaining an extremely solid melodic structure instead...

Dear Samahang Modern,
Thank you for one fucking crazy-ass weekend.  From the hilarious & retarded games, to playing flip-cup for first time (except I chose Sunny D for my drink, lolol), to going to the beach, to just being able to spend some quality time with the rest of Modern—it’s gonna be a weekend to remember.  Definitely.

I don't drink, I don't do drugs, and I refrain...
However, I think that to look down on someone simply for drinking is to be ignorant. to look down on someone simply for doing drugs is to be ignorant. to look down on someone simply for having sex prior to marriage is to be ignorant. Most people aren’t the hopeless cases we see so often in the news.  Always get the other side of the story before weighing in with your own judgment.

littlelesslonesome asked: Heyhey, I was just wondering if you feel better now or if the virus still got the best of you. Crazy dreams are part of being ill, since your body is just not paying that much attention at how you process the stuff of that day (which normally results in a normal dream) because it is busy fighting the illness. Ending up in weird ass dreams. When I was ill over the Christmas break I dreamt I lived...

Expectations vs. Reality
Reality vs. Expectations. We like to start by comparing one against the other, eventually creating a self-fulfilling, often romantic prophesy that bridges both together in a blurry mess. It leads to failure in most cases. Perhaps it’s better to treat them as completely separate, and go from there.

My brother told me theres this group of either Mormons or Atheists knocking on our door once every few weeks, looking specifically for me.  However, I’ve been at at college every single time they came.   I really want to be here one of these days to talk to them.  Having deep religious conversations and exchanges of beliefs with people never fail to intrigue me.

Samahang Winter Retreat
is coming up this coming weekend.  I cannot fucking WAIT! Meanwhile, I gotta get started on learning some dope songs for the inevitable acoustic jam session that’ll happen while we’re there. Let’s start of with a little Something Special.  :]

I'm not gonna lie,
Freestyling to classical/baroque music, at least with popping, is really fun.  It tests the limits of your musicality, since the structure and composition of the pieces are so much more complex and technical. Every song has it’s own unique emotion, and it’s like watching cartoons again, trying to match the mood of the song with your own dance movements.

KCM vs. Samahang (not really)
I’m beginning to realize that living in a bubble isn’t exactly conducive to my health.  I need to have exposure to temptation, greed, and all other “bad” aspects of human behavior, in balance with the “good,” bubble aspects, in order to thrive.  That’s how I got through high school, and it’s what helps me learn life best—I see the strengths and...

A few nights ago,
I was heading back to my dorm from SLR at about 3 in the morning to get some sleep for classes the next day.  Upon stepping outside, I realized that I had become extremely sensitive to the slightest cold.  My illness was coming down, and hard, I realized—I knew it was coming, since I had an extremely sore throat throughout the day.  I walked back to my norm not only shivering, but clamming;...

Even though I don't consider myself all that...
Christian music never fails to calm my nerves and bring me to peace of mind.  Praise is something, so communal, and yet so strikingly individual, that it allows me to truly be who I really am, if not for just a few minutes. When I sing, or even just listen, I lose myself in song and bring all emotional barriers down. I let everything out—a feeling yet to be matched by anything else. I...

a-truong: It’s kinda funny if you think about it. How often do people say that they want a relationship and how it changes their lives once they get into one. But recently, I’ve been living my life wanting to be single, and honestly… I don’t see the attractiveness of a relationship anymore. I used to think… word.

Sleeptime.  3-4 hours of practice today, and I’m looking at 3-5hours worth of dancing tomorrow, and probably even more on Sunday, wrapping up with a performance at Showdown. Hell week is fucking intense, and extremely exhilirating. It’s been awhile since I’ve been pushed this hard, and it feels good to be pushing myself again.
